About two weeks ago I did my first ponytail hairstyle and I loved it.
In today’s post, I’ll be sharing with you my experience and how I got my hair to lay this nicely.Honestly, it was not all the way easy to tame my fro to this slick low ponytail
It was in fact a 2 man job.I remember the hair stylist trying to convince me to perm my hair loool (all my natural hair sistas can totally relate to this struggle).
Anyways, I refused to relax my hair so she got to business. Below are the steps taken to achieve this ponytail
- BLOW DRYING
The hair stylist after washing my hair applied my Dark and lovely leave-in and then blew dried my hair in sections from tips to roots to minimize breakage.
After blow drying she straightened my hair, I was very skeptical about this step because I have not straightened my hair since I went natural (almost 4 years now).
I told her about my heat damage worry and she calmed me down and told me she would turn the straightener to low heat and won’t straighten the tips of my hair (we all know the tips are the oldest and weakest parts of our hair).
I was glad I spoke up, otherwise she would have straightened the hell out of my hair. If you miss this post about things to do when at a salon click here. Speaking up is one of them and I’m glad I expressed my concerns.
- ATTACHING THE WEAVE
My hair was then packed and tied back with a cotton thread to keep it in place (this was a job for 2 men!!)
And this kinky weave was sown-in to the bun of my hair.
- LAYING / APPLICATION OF GEL
I made sure she used minimal gel cause I hate the cakeness that comes with gel. I used the Eco styler olive oil gel.
The entire process took about 30 minutes which makes me even like this style more.In order to keep my hair in place, I have to tie my silk scarf to bed, I hardly ever tie scarfs to bed but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. After about a week? I washed out the gel because it started to flake and leave white particles in my hair. Ever since I washed the gel out I’ve been relaying on my booby pins to keep my hair in place, and they’ve been doing a really good job. I will definitely be remaking this style in the near future. I hope you found this post helpful. Let me know in the comment section if you’ve had this style done or is considering making it.
Till the next post. Love
